PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious trophy on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the final moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
